Life at Present

Life is brilliant! Blogging has been scarce over the past weeks because so much good stuff has been happening!

Currently getting ready for my wedding which is just twelve days away! Life at Kings is running hot - 27 people water baptized last night, many people said 'Yes to Jesus' and a spontaneous miracle offering of almost $100,000 given (just this weekend!) toward our Kings House building program. What an honor to be part of a growing church lead by incredible leaders, Steve and Marion Penny, who choose to live on the edge of faith.

In addition to this I moved house last night. Sarah and I are presently making preparations to build a house, however were in need of a house to live in for the first few months of our marriage and wanted to avoid the cost and hassle that comes with renting a house and signing a lease. By "coincidence" a couple we know had bought a large house in Bli Bli with a pool, full furnishings and 180 degree views of the Coast, and were looking for someone to house-sit for them for 4 months. Because we are such selfless and generous people, Sarah and I were happy to agree to the couple's rent-free terms and I've now moved in. To sweeten the deal, the house also has a huge TV with AUSTAR, right in time for the AFL season!

God is good!

The Wisdom of Winning

Charles Spurgeon at his brilliant best, commenting on Proverbs 11:30, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise."

Sir Astley Cooper, on visiting Paris, was asked by the chief surgeon how many times he had performed a certain wonderful feat of surgery. He replied that he had performed the operation thirteen times.

“Ah, but, monsieur, I have done it one hundred and sixty times. How many times did you save the life?” continued the curious Frenchman, after he had looked into the blank amazement of Sir Astley’s face.
“I,” said the Englishman, “saved eleven out of the thirteen. How many did you save out of one hundred and sixty?”
“Ah, monsieur, I lost them all, but the operation was very brilliant!”
Of how many popular ministries might the same verdict be given! Souls are not saved, but the preaching is very brilliant. Thousands are attracted and operated on by the rhetorician’s art, but what if he should have to say of his admirers, “I lost them all, but the sermons were very brilliant!”

On Meaning

"If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark."
- C.S. Lewis

Inspiration from Wesley

"Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergymen or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon Earth."
- John Wesley

On Television

"Television is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn't have in your home."
